The En Primeur tasting in the Bordeaux region took place from April 24 to 27, 2023, and it is a highlight for our winery every year. It was a privilege to participate in the En Primeur tastings at Count Stephan von Neipperg's estate, who graciously invites us annually to present our En Primeur wines at his magnificent and prestigious Château Canon La Gaffelière. Over the years, we have become friends and cherish the brief but valuable time we spend together during the En Primeur tastings. We often find a moment to discuss various topics – from world events and politics to the latest developments in viticulture.
Le Pin Beausoleil 2022 – a very promising vintage.
Regarding the 2022 vintage, we are convinced that it will be remembered as one of the greatest Château Le Pin Beausoleil has ever produced. The reactions from numerous journalists, sommeliers, wine experts, producers, and importers were particularly positive and encouraging. Julien Lavenu of Derenoncourt Consults also confirmed our positive impression. Coincidentally, I met Stéphane Derenoncourt during a tasting, and he too was very pleased with the Le Pin Beausoleil 2022.
The 2022 vintage presents itself with a mouthful of dark berries, red cherries, plums, and mocha, and despite its intensity and full body, it maintains a pleasant acidity and freshness. This reflects both the minerality of the exceptional terroir and the refined tannins. We are particularly proud that the beautiful plots in Saint Vincent de Pertignas (which form the backbone and structure of the wine) and in Mérignas (which contribute strength and fruitiness) together yield wines with a harmonious balance between structure and elegance.
Limited production.
Given that we produced only a limited quantity in 2022 due to relatively dry weather conditions, the En Primeur offer for our customers could be particularly interesting. We will produce only about 850 to 900 cases of the 2022 vintage. Furthermore, most vintages of Le Pin Beausoleil are currently sold out, including the 2020. Therefore, we recommend our loyal customers to acquire the 2022 vintage En Primeur if they wish to add this long-lived and valuable wine to their cellar.
Consistent and beautiful vine budding
Over the past four weeks, southwestern France, including Bordeaux, has experienced a mix of varying weather conditions. There were periods of heavy rainfall, cooler temperatures, and some sunny days. In some areas, rainfall was higher than average, causing concern among winemakers and farmers. However, some dry periods have helped to balance the soil's moisture content. The lower temperatures have slowed down the flowering process of the vines, which may influence the harvest time but can also lead to more complex flavor nuances. Despite the challenges, we remain optimistic and adapt to the changing conditions.
During the En Primeur tasting, we were able to observe the budding of the vines. Since water reserves have been replenished after the rainfall, the budding was very consistent and vigorous, creating a beautiful sight. Furthermore, thanks to the mild weather conditions this year, there is no risk of frost damaging the vines. We are therefore ready for a new viticultural season in 2023.
